In May of last year, we were invited to Slough to visit one of the most iconic and historic buildings in the area, more specifically the Horlicks Factory. The reasoning behind the visit was due to the failure of Horlicks’ emergency lighting inverters which were well in need of a replacement if the factory was to continue working properly.
For those that don’t know, Horlicks has remained a favourite drink amongst the British public for years, having been developed by founders James and William Horlick well over 100 years ago. The product manufactured by company GlaxoSmithKline now boasts over 9 variants which ranges from the traditional drink to cereals and nutrition bars. As great fans ourselves, we felt it our duty to ensure that Horlicks continues to be part of the brew-drinking world.
The project began with the Powervamp team making a site visit to the Horlicks factory with a view to tendering to replace the existing emergency lighting inverters that had reached the end of their life. GlaxoSmithKline requested a complete turnkey solution which included the decommissioning and removal of the old equipment and the positioning, installation and testing of the new equipment.
When discussing the job, a GlaxoSmithKline representative expressed: “Only Powervamp could offer the complete turnkey service” being more than happy for us to take up the challenge. The tender went to several other well-known manufacturers of similar equipment before realising that only Powervamp could provide the bespoke service necessary.
Competitors couldn’t offer the required full service and the order was secured by us not only due to a competitive price, but due to the fact that we could complete the job solely in-house. Without the need for a third party to assist.
Powervamp were able to complete the job relatively easily, installing 2 x EF20 emergency lighting inverters rated at 4.8kVA to power the low consumption lighting in the main factory. The job underlined how yet another contract was won through our ability to offer the client a complete service – from site survey to maintenance contract.
