Rolls Royce recently approached Powervamp with a repeat requirement for their Bristol aviation facility. The order for the EF20 single phase 400HZ static frequency converter is to be installed within their aviation engine production line in Filton, Bristol.
Although the EF20 product was originally specified, an additional 28VDC, 10A plug and socket assembly was also requested within the frequency converter as part of the bespoke install.
“An £18 million investment into the Bristol plant will help convert an existing facility to allow the testing and maintenance of the TP400 engine”
Rolls Royce has been in business for over one hundred years, and has built a solid reputation for technical excellence on land, sea and air. Rolls Royce ordered their first EF20 in 2009, however their latest order takes the total number of frequency converters to six.
The recent announcement at the end of last year of an £18 million investment into the Bristol plant will help convert an existing facility to allow the testing and maintenance of the TP400 engine whilst on the ground.
The TP400 engine is used for the Airbus A400M Atlas military transport aircraft, and developed and produced by Europrop International (of which Rolls Royce is the senior partner). The engine has a twin-spool gas generator, and a three shaft configuration chosen to maximise overall pressure ratio. It is the third most powerful turboprop (after the contra-rotating Kuznetsov NK-12 and Progress D-27) making the TP400 the most powerful single-rotation turboprop.
