Product Information

In response to the frequent need to operate US manufactured equipment outside the continental US, Powervamp has developed a heavy duty step-up transformer enabling equipment designed for US operations to run efficiently on European voltages*. Powervamp is both a major manufacturer of aviation ground power products and a provider of ground power at the world’s major air shows. Because of this, it owns a large fleet of rental equipment to which these latest heavy duty step-up transformers are the latest addition.

Designed to power major plant taking up to 180kVA and able to accept a wide tolerance on the input voltage to cope with the voltage fluctuations typically experienced with temporary power supplies or outdoor exhibition venues, these transformers eliminate the need to invest in expensive motor drives or separate diesel generators .

Typical applications include demonstrating heavy equipment, or where short term rental of portable electrically powered equipment is using motors with a US voltage. Typically this would be construction plant, high pressure air conditioners or any equipment that if exhibited outside the continental US, prior to a sale, would have to be modified to operate on European voltage. In such cases, the use of a large diesel generator has been the usual solution.

Powervamp’s step-up transformer eliminates the costs of voltage changes, eliminates the high cost of locally sourced gen-sets and their fuel burn and eliminates the traditional “headache” of operating /demonstrating equipment where the country voltage is not compatible with the equipment’s voltage. · Connected equipment must be compatible with the mains / utility frequency (50 or 60Hz) of the country where this equipment is to be operated. Housed in a powder coated steel case and designed to be a free standing floor mounted unit, the transformer has an IP 22 rating and should be protected against bad weather.
